HIV Testing and Counseling Training 2009 PROSPECTUS About the Course The AIDS Information and Support Centre (TASC), in conjunction with the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and Population Services International (PSI) will be conducting the HTC Client initiated counseling trainings. The client initiated HIV testing and counseling short course provides training for pre and post test counseling only plus training on rapid testing for medically oriented counselors. This course does not adequately prepare counselors for manning the complex, psychological or psychological issues that occur across the disease continuum. The curriculum emphasizes on the information and skills needed for the service delivery at the sites. It is very participatory, highly involving and practical oriented. This is further enhanced by the compulsory supervised clinical attachment. Certification is only given after completion of the clinical attachment. The HTC training is divided into two (2) parts; Part 1 – Pre and post counseling, theory and hands- on practical training Part 2- Training on rapid testing, theory and hands- on practical. Training Schedule and requirements are outlined below:
Core competencies for the HTC Training Ø Communicates accurate information on HIV and AIDS facts Ø Conduct HIV risk assessment with clients Ø Provide quality pre and post test counseling Ø Provide quality counseling on HIV prevention Ø Identified post test care needs and make appropriate referrals Ø Provide HIV testing and counseling (HTC) in special scenarios Ø Facilitates ongoing monitoring and evaluation of HTC services Ø Identify counselors support needs and make appropriate interventions
Training Costs; please note that the advertised costs do not include travel expenses to and from training centre, bed, breakfast and dinner. The cost includes tuition fee, course related travel, lunch, mid morning tea and afternoon tea. Trainees can reside at accommodation of their choice without disrupting starting time and send off from training centre. During clinical attachment trainees provide their own lunch and tea Amount is payable to TASC before start of training. Training Venue: A; trainings are conducted at the TASC central office, Manzini. Accomodation not provided/arranged Please note that the maximum number of trainees per training is 15 and spaces are allocated on first come first serve basis.
